Halloween is a fun holiday for everyone in the family, and the pets too. When you curve your jack-o-lanterns this year, keep some of the pumpkin flesh for this scrumptious and easy-to-make Pumpkin Pet Treat recipe.
Pumpkin Pet Treats (suitable for Dogs & Cats)
Ingredients:
1 – 1.5 cups fresh pumpkin meat
2.5 cups whole wheat flour
2 eggs
2 tablespoons of honey
0.5 cup water
A pinch of cinnamon (optional)
Food coloring (optional)
Pumpkin shaped cookie cutter
Preparation:
Remove seeds from the fresh pumpkin meat. Place the pumpkin in a bowl and add just enough water to immerse the pumpkin. Microwave on high for 3 minutes. Drain excess water. Mash pumpkin meat with a fork or a potato masher until smooth.
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F
2. Measure 1 cup of mashed pumpkin, and combine with flour, eggs, honey, and cinnamon in a large bowl. Add water slowly to the mixture just enough to moisten all the ingredients in the dough. The dough should remain fairly stiff.
3. Roll the dough to 0.5 inch thick, and use Pumpkin shaped (or other Halloween shaped) cutter.
4. Bake the treats an inch apart for about 20 minutes on each side until dry and hard.
Allow the treats to cool before giving them to your furry friends.
